Contemporary Opera Marin is an opera company based in Marin County, California, just over the Golden Gate Bridge, north of San Francisco. Specializing in smaller opera/music theater works of the 20th and 21st century, as well as forgotten gems from past times, it draws on the vast talent pool of professional, pre-professional and dedicated amateur singers in the San Francisco Bay Area, performing in intimate venues throughout Marin County, with occasional forays to London.

Specializing in smaller works that fit the mostly intimate performance spaces, a few of the many outstanding productions included Heaven Ablaze in His Breast by Judith Weir, The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat by Michael Nyman, Sister Amy by Odaline de la Martinez, both the chamber and grand opera versions of Gomora by HK Gruber, The Music Programme by Roxanna Panufnik, The Triumph of Death by Frederic Rzewski, Send for Mr. Plim by Mischa Spoliansky, Hydrogen Jukebox by Philip Glass, and Frida by Robert X Rodriguez.

In addition, a number of works have been commissioned by Marin County composers, as well as ‘scenic etudes’ based on the music of Libby Larsen, Bela Bartok, Francis Poulenc, Ludwig van Beethoven, ‘degenerate composers’, and the suffragette movement.

This is Contemporary Opera Marin’s third visit to London.
