BRAHMS CELLO SONATAS

Peter Hewitt devotes his music making to solo piano playing, chamber music and Lieder. Over the last 20 years he has built up many long term musical partnerships and has given over a thousand concerts playing an average of 60 concerts each season. His recital work regularly takes him all around the UK, America & the Middle East.  


Peter’s ongoing recording project of the complete Beethoven Piano Sonatas has attracted terrific critical acclaim. Vladimir Ashkenazy admired the “attention to detail and devotion to the music. Hewitt is very musical... it touched me." The great British Beethoven player John Lill commented, “Hewitt’s extraordinarily perceptive qualities and deeply sensitive soul are so well suited to this music. Past performances have included appearances at all the major London venues, tours of Scotland and Wales, nationwide performances of Schumann’s Dichterliebe, including one at the Purcell Room in London as part of the prestigious Fresh Series for outstanding young musicians, tours to the Middle East and the US, a performance of Beethoven’s Third Piano Concerto with the London Festival Orchestra and a tour of the USA with recitals and masterclasses in Berkeley, Las Vegas, Louisiana, Lincoln and Omaha, Nebraska and Philadelphia. He was recently invited to appear in a VirtuosoPianists series in London featuring six of Europe’s finest virtuoso pianists.


Last season included UK tours of the Mendelssohn and Tchaikovsky Piano Trios including performances at St John’s, Smith Square, London, the Turner Sims Hall, Southampton and St David’s Hall, Cardiff. Next season will include a series of nationwide Beethoven sonata recitals, a CD release and tours with violinist Peter Fisher to celebrate the Fritz Kreisler anniversary year. For the past 20 seasons Peter has devoted a proportion of his concert playing work to giving charity fund raising concerts and has raised well over £200,000 to date.


Peter’s repertoire encompasses mainstream works from Bach to Prokofieff but he also maintains an interest in the works of contemporary composers and has given many world premiere performances.
