JULIAN SILVERMAN
Composer and lecturer Julian Silverman won a Music scholarship to Balliol College, Oxford and studied french horn and composition at the Royal Academy of Music.
He founded the Contemporary Music Society, co-founded and conducted the Hampstead Chamber Orchestra and had compositions performed in Southwark Cathedral, Purcell Room, Ronnie Scotts Jazz Club and extensively in theatre.
He spent five years as Music Lecturer at Zurich Music Conservatoire and in London at St Martins Art School, Goldsmiths College and Morley College, where he taught music theory, history, composition, improvisation, world music and ran 'Orchestra for All' – a popular, long-running family orchestra.
He worked with Musica Reservata on versions of early music for broadcasts, recordings and performances. Julian Silverman also worked for some years as an orchestral horn player.

A History of Music in 100 Examples
with
Julian Silverman
A series of talks about music from all over the world, tracing its history from speculations about its beginning right up to the most recent developments.

Composer and lecturer Julian Silverman will provide analysis, comparisons and creative experiments into the various compositional principles and devices which underly the works.

Scores of the musical excerpts will be provided and lecture notes will be available towards the end of the series. The evenings will include plenty of time for general discussion and a sociable drink.
